Had one fly by a last fall out in Arizona. Presumably they’re used in places with long, flat, unpopulated highways mostly.

South Dakota now has a few Highway Patrol pursuit mustangs. Not sure why they are better than the V8 chargers outside of stealth.

We have them patrolling the highway in Maine. They are super sneaky.

There was one in north Phoenix that tried to get me to race him when I had my WRX. Fortunately I’m not an idiot, and had already spotted him pulling people over. There’s a yellow Camaro SS that I see pulling people over all the time as well.

They’re out there, but seem not especially practical. A normal US police car will have no trouble chasing at speeds high enough that they should really be on the radio instead of endangering people with an extremely high-speed chase.

So the campus chief wanted a new car huh?

That is, presumably, the other reason for these to exist.

Here’s hoping it was a seized vehicle (which also can be pretty fucked up in certain circumstances), otherwise, what a goddamn waste of tax dollars.

If this was at a stop light you should have started revving your engine like you were going to go for it, then taken off at a leisurely pace at the green and watch him barrel off like a fool. Then call 911 and report a car trying to street race people at stop lights.

Certain big cities around the intermountain west think it’s cool to have their cops tailgate for a few minutes to rattle people.

That happened to me once in suburban Philadelphia, left the office late and had a cop tail me bumper to bumper on winding country roads in the dark, until he got fed up and passed me. Then, he pulled to the shoulder, let me pass, and pulled me over for “flashing high beams” at him, which I didn’t do (but I did notice the reflection of my headlights bouncing off his rearview mirror as he went up and down the hills in front of me, guess it could have been an honest mistake? Modern low beams are bright).

He got embarrassed when he recognized I was related to a couple of local cops, including the chief of the neighboring department, admitted he couldn’t tell much difference between my lows and brights when I demonstrated them, and let me go with a warning not to drive with high beams on, which I wasn’t doing anyway. I mentioned it to my cop relatives later, and they said he was apparently a newer hire who they had heard was kind of an idiot.

Yeah, I got pulled over on a “DUI bust” (I don’t drink) late one night— ass-hole had tailgated me for a couple of miles. Said I was weaving. I pointed out that Quadrasteer articulates the rear wheels as how the suspension works back there... so his perceptions were flawed

Pointed to my Dunkin’ coffee cup and waited....

He goes off for 5 minutes to confer with his “back up cars”. Geez!

Comes back “We’re gonna cut you loose”.

“Uh, yeah, of course you are. I wasn’t drinking, will easily pass a FSR and have my attorney over in minutes to supervise an independent blood test, then will call my buddy the Head Detective who will pull strings to have you on Parking Patrol Golf Cart duty for the next three years.”

Our PD has a 911 Turbo, but it’s mostly a showpiece for community outreach (drug seizure). I wonder if this is similar.

When I was growing up in FL, Highway Patrol Fox body Mustangs were not too uncommon. The idea was a deterrent to running. They were all marked, though.

I love when there’s a cop right on my bumper and I can watch  them screwing around with every electronic device in their car as they’re tailgating me. It’s even better when it’s a multi lane road and they won’t move left into an empty lane.

Uhg, the local PD has a bunch of ghosts. Ram 1500, Ford F-150, Honda Odyssey, Nissan Rogue. The Odyssey and Rogue are always patrolling the highways. The Odyssey is actually in a black that’s kind of rare color for them .

However, the Rogue is Gray and every flippen Rogue seems to be Gray. I either have to check the driver for uni if they’re behind or see if the insurance expires in Feb on the plate

The best one I’ve ever seen was a Ford Transit Paddy Wagon done up as a limo van. I couldn’t believe it when the lights came on.

I always focus on the silhouettes of equipment that appear when light comes through the windows of unmarked vehicles. If you see the corner or outer edge of something you wouldn’t expect being visible behind glass, you’ll know to take appropriate actions.

I tell you one thing I absolutely hate: non- reflective paint and/or decals on LEO vehicles. I understand why it’s used, but it creates a huge safety threat when driving at night. You don’t see them until you are right on top of them. If a LEO is parked on the side of the road for any reason, and you are driving down the sam e road and need to take evasive action to avoid wildlife or debris, or your lane discipline is monetarily sloppy, you may end up running into a parked vehicle you didn't see until it was too late.

It’s tough though, because some vehicles   now have factory tint and you never know if it could just be aftermarket as well. They’ve gotten very good at hiding the lights because of the LED size.

I had this tonight as I made my way for photos on the mountain . I’d suspect it’s a cop because of the black steelies (and Friday evening  mountain shenanigans) but they could fool me if it had silver or chrome alloys on. I might just think it’s ‘for hire’.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

That’s true as well, I mean this Tahoe is completely black, good luck night time on the highway see it if the lights are off.
